  •

We have been listening to Raffi lately. A lot. When I tell people this, they usually react as if that's a bad thing.  But, it's great.  Raya is learning the words, and really singing the songs correctly, which is new for her.  Even Nona sings some parts of the songs.  And as I listen to Raffi's acoustic guitar and nurturing voice, I find myself moved almost to tears that this moment is passing so swiftly.  The moment where two little girls are journeying through their magical childhood.  Where the things they really love, the things that really turn them on, are fantasy and kindness and dreams.  And my throat chokes up, and I almost panic with the knowledge that this, too, will be over.  Much, much too soon.  We won't always be cozy in our house, hearing kid's folk music while folding clothes and rocking on the little wooden horse.

  • Sorry for the lateness of your Birthday Post, little one.

    Sweet Nona Rose
    Turns Two!!

Two years have gone by in a blur.
It is fitting that these gauzy photos would reflect that.

We threw a family party for Nona Rose. It was a grand affair.
    She was showered with gifts,

    And there was much feasting.

Also, chocolate cake with strawberry filling,
    for Miss Strawberry Chocolate, herself.

    The life we had
    before Nona Rose
    seems a whole world away.
    Maybe we were just waiting
    with baited breath
to gather our hearts in our hands
    and leap with total faith
    rushing unchecked
to join the whirlwind of you.

  • Halloween 2009 came off without a hitch.

    Super Hero Ballerina!

    The little Scarecrow.

We attended, as we do every year,
    the Old Fashioned Halloween Carnival.
Complete with cakewalks, fishing for a prize,
    and bean bag toss games.

    We stuffed ourselves all day.
Starting with pumpkin waffles and ending with
    Dinner in a Pumpkin.
    And trick or treats.

    And how was your day?

Thursday, 29 October 2009

  • Well, October certainly flew by fast.
It feels good to settle into our home, turn inward a bit.
I spend my daydreaming times thinking up recipes and sewing projects.
Developing a rhythm to our days.

    Nona Rose.
Is it possible you turn two a week from now?
I packed up all the diapers the other day, put them in the attic.  I can't bring myself to part with them.
The changing table is finding a new home.
Yesterday, I took the highchair out of the house.
All the signs of this being a place that has a baby are changing.
I am experiencing a wistfulness I did not expect. To never have a house with a newborn again.
Dim lamps burning at all hours. Tiny laundry on every surface.  Cozy little blankets in all rooms.
A warm and soft cave-like feeling, the entire world shrunk to just this dwelling, and these few people.

    Rayasun Shine.
    Quite the big, tall girl.
A good way to describe Raya is, "passionately positive".
She now brushes and does her own hair. Almost every day!
(Sometimes she will still let me)
So far school agrees with her splendidly.

So here we are, beginning to put this year to rest.
    Smiling, cuddling, walking, singing, dancing.
Arms open to embrace what comes next.
    Heart fertile to nurture love.

    Happy Fall.
    Blessings.

  • Upon realizing that Sunday was THE FINAL DAY OF THE FAIR! we made a last minute decision to attend.
It's such a nice way to kick off the fall.
The Sisters donned their corn dresses and we headed out.

But not before snapping a few cute shots.

    Awww.

    You cornballs!

Nona's favorite part was the animals.

And we took a Sky Ride!

    Soaking up some Indian summer.
